Cryptoloc - ISO 27001:2013 certified cybersecurity startup

Jamie Wilson - a former accountant based here in Brisbane - suffered twin devastations in 2010: the loss of his father to pancreatic cancer and the loss of property during the Queensland floods.

Both of these events saw Jamie - the founder of Brisbane company Cryptoloc - struggle to locate important legal documents while having to deal with the heavy burden of emotional stress.

“Learning from these events, Jamie decided to store all of his records in the cloud. However, he was dissatisfied with the software available, which only offered password level security,” Cryptoloc head of strategy Rick Fuller says.

“Jamie was concerned that his entire life could be intercepted if his passwords were compromised. And after failing to find a platform that offered a higher level of security, he set out to create his own file storage solution.

“To get there he had to first develop a new high security encryption technology and so he spent four years travelling the world, working with cybersecurity experts, mathematicians and encryption specialists to develop the world’s most secure encryption technology.”

Wilson led the development of Cryptoloc’s patent technology between 2010 and 2014.

“In 2014 he launched Your Digital File, which is marketed as the world’s most secure cloud storage service,” Rick says.

“In 2018, once patents were granted, he launched Cryptoloc Technology Group, an ISO 27001:2013 certified cybersecurity startup that has developed and patented a new, high security encryption technology, which is deployed across several products.

“In July 2020, Your Digital File was rebranded as YDF.ai., which is a bespoke cloud file storage service aimed at large corporations, a digital signature platform and an anti-counterfeiting technology.”

From day one, Cryptoloc Technology Group has been on a mission to educate both businesses and consumers and reduce the impact of cybersecurity on the world.

“We don’t believe the world takes cybersecurity seriously enough,” Rick says.

Seed funding came from a number of private investors and Wilson himself.

“We are currently engaged in a Series A funding round, however we are not able to release details of this yet due to current negotiations,” Rick says.

“Cryptoloc Technology Group is a profitable company that has largely relied on its own revenue for further funding to develop its products and open additional offices.

“We’ve been able to open HQ offices in New York, Johannesburg, Cambridge and Tokyo.”

Other than its international expansion there have been many great wins for the Cryptoloc Technology Group team.

“It has been a big year of achievements,” Rick says.

“In April we launched Cryptoloc AQ, a revolutionary anti-counterfeiting product. In June we were named by Forbes as one of the Top 20 cybersecurity startups to watch in 2020. And in July we rebranded Your Digital File.”
