Having already caught the eye of Maersk Shipping - the world’s largest shipping company, Steve Baxter’s investment company - Transition Level Investments, and Blackbird Ventures, IncoDocs is changing the import/export shipment game around the world.
IncoDocs is a secure export documentation software built for modern small- and medium-size businesses. Its cloud-based software allows shippers to easily create and share documentation throughout the supply chain for import and export shipments worldwide.
Co-founders Ben Thompson and Brandon Boor developed the IncoDocs software after struggling with supplier shipping documentation, causing problems within their own importing business back in 2013.
Having turned to the market for a solution, it was clear there wasn’t one they deemed acceptable.
In 2016 they took their idea to the River City Labs accelerator program where they met tech co-founder David Hooper.
“This provided us with the support and networks we needed. We worked with a core group of users to find the common threads that existed for exporters around the world and developed a truly international product,” Ben says.
They’ve continued to make significant changes to the software ever since.
IncoDocs became the perfect solution to make shipping documentation easy and accessible to small and medium enterprises worldwide.
“It transforms a very manual, document-heavy process into a smooth digital interface,” Ben says.
“Users can easily create compliant documents, eliminate data re-entry across documents and share important documents and information to parties involved throughout the supply chain. It reduces administration costs, ensures compliance and reduces costs incurred along the supply chain.”
In 2018 an improved version of the software saw users signing up across the world, which caught the eye of Maersk Shipping, which quickly became interested in investing.
By September 2018 they had closed a $1.2 million seed round of funding from Maersk Growth, Transition Level Investments and Blackbird ventures in Sydney. This funding has enabled the team to expand to six, and for the operation to move to Brisbane City to continue to develop new features and partnerships with parties along the supply chain.
Looking forward, the team at IncoDocs is focusing on providing more value to freight forwarders, custom brokers and other parties along the supply chain.
New features will focus on streamlining data entry into third party systems and adding collaboration tools to connect parties along the supply chain - allowing them to share key information and documentation relating to import/export shipments.
