Lightweave

Licensable augmented reality and virtual reality technology

With their first Altered Reality Arena at Chermside well and truly grabbing hearts and eyeballs of gamers across Brisbane, immersible technology company Lightweave is taking console gaming out of the home and into the real world with plans to roll the technology out to more than 1000 locations globally.

Lightweave’s licensable augmented reality and virtual reality technology has been created with a huge amount of market data and insights, allowing them to deliver a cost-effective and immersive system that delivers the kind of AR experience brands demand for their customers.

Sam Hussey, CEO and co-founder of Lightweave, has worked in the film, entertainment and advertising industry since he was 15, and has travelled across the world watching trends as they’ve progressed into the market.

In a meeting with one of his business partners - who had been working closely with HTC and Oculus on virtual reality headsets - Sam was introduced to some work on a potential game and he immediately saw how it could rapidly expand and integrate with brands.

Sam and his co-founders Thomas MacNamara, Johan Becconsall and Michael McClenaghan quickly started planning - Sam saw this working globally and wanted to go after the market rapidly by building out licensable content that would be available for immediate use in the market.

With that, Lightweave was born. Without logos, a website or business cards, Sam began talking to his existing client base and immediately began closing deals, leading to an extremely rapid growth from that point onwards.

“We make immersive technology accessible to clients globally by providing immediate solutions to their needs. Our company builds a huge range of products which are top-tier quality at a cost-effective price, with the ability to quickly release to market,” Sam says.

“We have built a proprietary system that allows us to rapidly build robust products, which also helps us deliver cost-effective content with the ability to deploy immediately to market.”

Looking forward, the focus of Lightweave is expansion. The company is opening offices worldwide and is looking to expand further with a continued focus on Asia.

“Our growth journey is around providing a platform that allows easy access to our content globally,” he says.

“We are building out a huge suite of licensable products, with some major products coming over the next 12 months.”

In the short term, Lightweave is releasing its high-performance sport system (VR Tennis High Performance Training System) with Tennis Australia and Victoria University, and a range of other sports products.

The company is also releasing an easy to use AR System called WEAVAR, which allows clients to make AR content themselves through their platform. The platform makes it simple for clients to bring print collateral to life using augmented reality.
